Lovely Professional University (LPU) is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women to access and participate in academic and co-curricular programs, as well as providing equal opportunities for employment and career growth. This commitment is reflected in LPU’s Non-Discrimination Against Women and Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy. The following initiatives specifically focus on the inclusion and participation of women, aiming to eliminate any gender-based disparities:
Lovely Professional University (LPU) hosts three NCC battalions, one of which is exclusively dedicated to girls, namely the 2 Punjab Girls Battalion. Recently, this battalion, in collaboration with LPU-NCC and the Department of Community Services under the Division of Youth Affairs, Student Welfare Wing, successfully organized a Combined Annual Training Camp at LPU. The camp offered cadets a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, instil discipline, and strengthen their commitment to community service.
That's an incredible achievement and a commendable initiative by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab, India. The Project ‘Nari Her Right, Her Pride’ not only set a record for the longest line of sanitary pads but also had a significant social impact by promoting menstrual hygiene and challenging social stigmas related to menstruation. LPU runs various initiatives under the umbrella of this Project.
Additionally, the alignment of this Project with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 3, 5, and 6 further underscores the initiative's significance in contributing to global efforts aimed at eradicating poverty, promoting good health and well-being, achieving gender equality, and ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.
Projects like the ‘Nari Her Right, Her Pride’ are essential in breaking taboos, empowering women, and fostering positive change in society. Such initiatives serve as powerful reminders of the impact that collective action and awareness-raising can have on vital issues affecting women's health and rights. This approach not only raises awareness about menstrual hygiene but also takes practical steps to ensure access to essential sanitary products.
