Best Practice & Initiatives for Slow Learners

LPU has developed a range of schemes and practices to provide academic assistance to students facing academic challenges, such as remedial classes, self-learning materials, and additional tutoring classes.

Recoup/ Remedial Classes

Students scoring less in the end-term exams due to any valid reason are allowed to brush up on their concepts and bridge the gap in learning. For all such students, the University schedules regular re-coup/ remedial classes. These classes are essentially doubt-clearing sessions spanning over 10 days at a nominal fee. The students shall be extended academic guidance on all the important topics of the courses. Once a student registers for the classes they must attend the Recoup classes/lectures. The attendance of these classes is considered towards the final regular attendance calculation of the term. The classes are scheduled in the morning from 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. and evening after 5 p.m. to avoid any clash with the regular scheduled lectures. In the past year, more than 4000+ students had registered for the remedial/ recoup classes.

Additional Tutoring Classes

In an endeavor to help and support students facing academic challenges, LPU continuously initiates academic support programs. One such initiative, “Additional Tutoring,” is being introduced to provide focused academic support to students experiencing difficulties in understanding current term courses. This additional support is designed to help students improve their concepts and successfully clear their courses in the current term through the guidance provided by the faculty in the classes. These classes consist of 40 hours of duration (on a payment basis) and will be scheduled flexibly, either on weekends or weekdays (between 5-7 PM or 8-9 AM). The classes are scheduled in such a way that it doesn’t intercede with the student’s regular schedule so that a student can take maximum benefit of it. If any student feels difficulty in studying the course, he/she can register for the tutoring. In the last year, more than 3000 students have availed additional tutoring services.

Self-Learning Materials

The University also provides Self-learning material to the students to embark on self-directed learning. The subjects where students feel the need for self-study and require material for the courses are available on the UMS based on the student's request. Students can make use of these materials to study in their own time and improve their overall academic grades and subject understanding. It is an alternative approach where a student can make a balance between attending classes and following a Self-directed learning approach. More than 1900+ have availed SLMs to enhance their academic well-being in the past year.

Re-registration for Failed Courses: (F/G/ M grades)

Students are given opportunities to clear their failed courses and improve their marks in courses where they have scored less. Student can re-register for the failed course through their UMS.

Backlog Course: To clear backlog course(s), students may register his/her F/G/M/Fail grade course(s) either in the autumn term, spring term, or Summer Term.
Backlog registration opens thrice in an academic year:

  • During the autumn semester (Aug. to Dec.)
  • During the spring semester (Jan to May),
  • During the summer term (June to July) which is also known as summer term registration
