Disha

'Disha' is a Sanskrit word that means “Direction”. As the name suggests, "Disha", a social initiative of LPU, acts as a platform for the development and growth of all the stakeholders of education including teachers, students, administrators, staff etc. of various schools, colleges, NGOs and other educational institutes from all parts of the country. Disha, a collaboration of some of the most learned counsellors and experts aims to support and guide the students, teachers as well as the schools (as an organisation) through their experience about the ever changing system of the education.

Enlightenment and Empowerment of the education sector

LPU’s “DISHA” a comprehensive career guidance initiative that empowers students to make informed career choices has already been working in line with the UN SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Through DISHA, we offer career counseling, and tailored workshops/seminars to our female students' unique needs and aspirations on topics such as gender sensitivity etc. The university’s initiatives demonstrate our unwavering commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, Women Health and Sanitation. The university shows its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by taking numerous initiatives and one of them truly touches lives, it is 30% financial aid on UG and PG programmes offered, providing financial assistance throughout the entire duration of the programmes, specifically for single girl children and single parents, with a special focus on mothers. We believe in the transformative power of education that is reflected in the motto of the university as well “Transforming Education Transforming India”, and we are dedicated to making sure that this transformation is accessible to all, in the most compassionate and inclusive way possible. However, our actions are not limited to these.
A remarkable aspect of Lovely Professional University (LPU) is its commitment to gender equality and women empowerment for which the university has taken dedicated steps to continuously improve the encouragement of women in pursuing higher education and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the university has taken the initiative of discounting the application fee to 50% for all the tests. The underrepresentation of women in STEM fields is a global concern. However, at LPU, we are taking proactive steps to address this issue along with our financial aid schemes that are designed to attract and retain female students in STEM courses.
Lovely professional university is conducting workshops, seminars and providing carrier counselling for students and teachers of nearby schools since 2012 that empowers students to make their choice in selecting their career under DISHA program. Till now more than 70,000+ school students from various renowned schools participated in career counselling sessions incorporated with psychometric test. Also 5000+ teachers and principals of renowned schools attended the workshops and seminars on topic of education relevance. The main pathways of DISHA program are:

• Holistic Development: Fostering overall personal development, including communication skills, leadership, and teamwork, to prepare individuals for the workforce.
• Skill Development: Equipping individuals, especially youth, with skills that enhance employability and career prospects.
• Career Awareness: Providing information about various career options, including traditional and emerging fields.
• Guidance and Support: Offering personalized counseling to help individuals identify their interests, strengths, and potential career paths.
• Educational Resources: Facilitating access to educational opportunities, vocational training, and certifications relevant to local job markets.
• Entrepreneurship Promotion: Encouraging self-employment and entrepreneurship by providing training and resources for starting small businesses.

These objectives aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to build successful careers and improve their livelihoods.

Community Services

NCC

With the motto of "Unity and Discipline" reflecting our commitment to fostering a sense of responsibility and patriotism. Based in Jalandhar LPU NCC is affliated with four units: 8 PB Battalion, 2 PB Girls Battalion, 2 PB Boys Battalion and 1 PB Air Squadron.

NCC Activities

Fostering Leadership and Discipline With a total of 542 NCC Cadets, supported by 2 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and 2 Cadet Training Officers (CTOs), we aim to develop leadership qualities and a spirit of service among our cadets.

NCC Achievements

Thal Sainik Camp

• Under Officer Roshan Kumar Mahto LPU-NCC represented PH HP & CHD DTE at the All India Thal Sainik Camp 2022, he got gold medal in shooting.
• UO Yangzee Bhutia from LPU-NCC represented PH HP & CHD DTE at the All India Thal Sainik Camp 2023, excelling in the Quiz Competition with a bronze medal and showcasing her Map Reading skills.
• LPU-NCC congratulates CPL Anmol Anand for representing PH HP & C Directorate at AITSC 2024, where his Judging Distance and Field Signals team secured 1st position with gold medal, contributing to the overall SD category championship.

Republic Day Camp

• Three LPU-NCC cadets—SUO Aman Sharma, UO Abhishek Sharma, and Navneet Singh—proudly represented LPU and 8 PB BN at the 2024 Republic Day Parade at Rajpath, Delhi, in the presence of the Prime Minister.

Youth Exchange Programme(YEP)

• SUO Navneet Singh represented LPU-NCC at the prestigious 2024 Youth Exchange Program in the UK, winning a gold medal for Best in Drill and a silver medal for Best Shot Runner-Up!

• Cadet Vedank Mishra has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army. Officers Training Academy
• Corporal Omkar Nath has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army. Officers Training Academy

• Sergeant Naresh Kumar has been commissioned as OR in the renowned Gorkha Rifles in the Indian Army.

NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has been in operation in LPU since 2011. The Motto of NSS is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’. Currently, LPU-NSS has over 1900+ active members from different disciplines, working rigorously for community, health care, literacy drives and environmental protection.

The Motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” and overall personality development through community service. The basic objective of NSS is to arouse and enrich the social consciousness of youth.
