Accommodation Guidelines / strategies for
persons with disability

The following strategies are employed to support individuals with disabilities:

  • LPU offers financial aid to support access to higher education for individuals with:Benchmark disabilities, Locomotor disabilities due to spinal cord injury
  • Financial Benefits: Full waiver on program fees, Waiver on examination fees. Fore more details, please visit our website
  • Seat Availability: A total of 25 seats are available under this scheme.
  • Residential Facilities: Applicants referred by the Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCIA), Jalandhar, get free accommodation in the dormitory of the hostel (in the lowest-fee category).
  • Attendants can stay in the same room with the applicant without paying additional residential fees. For more details, please click here.
  • The hostels are equipped with the following facilities for individuals with disabilities: Ramps, elevators, and accessible pathways to enable unrestricted movement throughout the hostel areas.

Personal Assistance and Support:

To create a supportive environment, we provide students with spinal cord injuries the option to have an attendant assist them with their daily needs. There are no additional charges for the attendant's stay.

Scribe facility

LPU has examination code which allows the students with disability (Permanent and Temporary) to avail the facility of writer/Scribe.

Wheelchair-Friendly Infrastructure

One of the primary considerations in facilitating the educational journey of spinal cord injury students is making the residential area wheelchair-friendly. This includes installing ramps, elevators and accessible pathways to ensure unrestricted movement across different areas of the hostel. Widened doorways are designed to enhance accessibility of Spinal Cord Injury Student rooms and washrooms and the rooms are provided at ground floor. For more details, please visit our website.

Ramps and Railings: are provided all across the University for easy connectivity and mobility of the individuals.

JAWS talking software

JAWS converts a normal PC into a talking PC to enable a blind person to operate the computer independently. Besides English, it also speaks Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu etc.

Audio Books and Sign Language :

Audio Books and Sign language software is available in the University library for PwD aspirants.
