Financial aid to persons with certain Disabilities

With a view to facilitate access to Higher Education to the persons with benchmark disability and Locomotor disability caused by Spinal Cord Injury, LPU offers a financial aid. The benefits, process of applications submission, and selection of applications pertaining to scheme are detailed below:

Residential Facility

Applicants will have to pay for availing any residential facilities i.e., stay, food, and laundry etc. food and laundry charges for the attendant also. Applicant referred by SCIA, Jalandhar will be given additional benefits of residential facilities –free stay in hostel dormitory (residential facility in the lowest fee category). The attendant may be allowed to stay in the same hostel room without paying additional for residential fees

Disability support Office

Disability Support Office assists the individuals with disability to have a comfortable and safe environment inside the University campus. The office provides help to the individuals about any academic, residential and infrastructure related trouble they face in the campus. In addition, the department coordinates with every Academic and Residential block of the University through a dedicated Administrative Officer to take care of the requirements of the individuals with disabilities.

The DSO provides

  • Services to faculty, staff and students with disabilities.
  • Accommodation advice and resources for different departments.
  • Assisting equipment such as wheelchairs, canes and scribes for examination etc.
  • Accommodations for members of the public attending University events.
  • Support to disable student to access throughout the University.
  • Mentoring and support to people with specially disabled.

To create a supportive environment, we provide students with spinal cord injuries the option to have an attendant assist them with their daily needs. There are no additional charges for the attendant's stay.

Scribe facility

LPU has examination code which allows the students with disability (Permanent and Temporary) to avail the facility of writer/Scribe.

Wheelchair-Friendly Infrastructure

One of the primary considerations in facilitating the educational journey of spinal cord injury students is making the residential area wheelchair-friendly. This includes installing ramps, elevators and accessible pathways to ensure unrestricted movement across different areas of the hostel. Widened doorways are designed to enhance accessibility of Spinal Cord Injury Student rooms and washrooms and the rooms are provided at ground floor. For more details, please visit our website.

Ramps and Railings: are provided all across the University for easy connectivity and mobility of the individuals.

JAWS talking software

JAWS converts a normal PC into a talking PC to enable a blind person to operate the computer independently. Besides English, it also speaks Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu etc.

Audio Books and Sign Language :

Audio Books and Sign language software is available in the University library for PwD aspirants.

Specially -abled rest rooms

Rest rooms with key facilities for person with disability are available in every academic and residential block of the University.

Sports facilities for disabled persons:

LPU provides all students with access to world-class sports facilities so they can develop their athletic prowess. LPU provides all tuition costs, free accommodation, and boarding, as well as funding for the purchase of sporting equipment, competition entrance fees, and coaching sessions to its gifted athletes. All students, including those with impairments, are inspired and given the opportunity to succeed in athletics by the university's top-notch academic and athletic facilities. 14 LPU students participated in recently held Paralympics 2024 in Paris. VISTAAR 2023: 6th Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference

Each year, LPU takes the initiative to host a conference for individuals with disabilities. VISTAAR 2023, the 6th Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference & Wheelchair Games, was a notable event organized by LPU's NSS in collaboration with the Spinal Cord Injury Association of India (SCIA). Held at the Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium from March 30 to 31, 2023, the conference drew participants from all over India. Its primary goal was to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries while focusing on prevention and rehabilitation, bringing together individuals, experts, and dignitaries from various fields. LPU-NSS in collaboration with Louis Braille Welfare Association for the Blind organised a three-day national-level competition.

Three-day national-level competition. - For people with visual impairments

In a collaborative effort with the Louis Braille Welfare Association for the Blind, LPU-NSS organized a prestigious three-day national-level competition, on Nov-2022 providing visually impaired individuals an exhilarating platform to showcase their talents in various domains, including music, sports, and academics. The event's primary focus was to foster inclusivity and ensure equal opportunities for individuals with visual impairments. By creating such a meaningful endeavor, LPU-NSS reinforced its commitment to building a more accessible and empowering society for all. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities), as it promotes the well-being and inclusion of visually impaired individuals, encouraging them to thrive and contribute to society on an equal footing with others. Through such efforts, the partnership aimed to create a positive impact and inspire more initiatives that promote diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Parent teacher meeting

Mentoring session for Students, Faculty and Staff members

Student counselling: Student counselling is done by Faculty. Around 20 students are given to 1 faculty member. The faculty mentor assumes responsibility for addressing the academic as well as non-academic concerns of the students. Every mentor meets every mentee at least once in a month.
Parent teacher meeting: A transparent and inclusive approach has been adopted to counsel student’s parents for holistic support. Parents have been made an integral part of this program through their participation in:

Located in Block 8, Room 208, the Meditation Centre offers a tranquil space for students and faculty/staff to cultivate inner peace, enhance self-awareness, and improve overall well-being through meditation practices.

Individual Counselling

LPU offers one-on-one counseling sessions with qualified mental health professionals, allowing students and staff to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Using evidence-based techniques, counselors support individuals in building coping skills, managing stress, and fostering resilience. These sessions aim to promote healing, growth, and personal empowerment, creating a foundation for well-being and positive mental health.

Group Counselling

Recognizing the value of shared experiences, group counseling sessions at LPU address common challenges faced by students. These sessions cultivate a sense of community, helping participants understand that they are not alone and reinforcing that seeking support is a proactive step toward a happier, healthier life.

Psychological Testing

The department provides psychological testing services for the LPU community including students and staff, including assessments for aptitude, interests, IQ, and behavioral traits. These tests are valuable tools for students making informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
