This outreach activity involved collaborative efforts with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to collect waste from the riverbed, showcasing their commitment to environmental stewardship. By actively participating in this "Clean Drive," the students not only contributed to revitalizing the river's ecosystem but also raised awareness about the importance of preserving natural water resources. LPU actively contributes to sustainable water management practices in collaboration with government bodies, supporting the upkeep and beautification of the near by NH44 road side landscape along national highways and managing roadside drainage systems. The university’s Planning and Development Cell plays a key role in maintaining the NH44 highway adjacent to the campus, enhancing the area with verdant landscaping, regular waering to plants, cleaning, and the upkeep of roadside water channels to prevent water accumulation, benefiting the surrounding community. Through community-focused initiatives, LPU partners with local and national highway authorities, fostering synergies that tackle real-world challenges related to groundwater seepage and sustainable water management practices.

Water Supply Networks and Advanced Management Techniques for the Expansion of the Sewerage System in Udaipur, Rajasthan

LPU students contributed to a sustainable cities initiative in Udaipur, Rajasthan, by assessing the expansion of the sewerage system, focusing on treatment capacity, pipeline enhancements, and future planning.This proposal introduces the development of a state-of-the-art 60 Million Liters per Day (MLD) water treatment plant, designed to address these challenges and safeguard Udaipur's water future.
Addressing these deficiencies Clogged Drainage in the existing drainage system is crucial for improving stormwater management and reducing the impact of flooding on the city. By treating water to meet safety standards and delivering it efficiently through pipelines, this project aims to provide a reliable source of clean water for Udaipur's residents and promote sustainable water management practices.

Satellite Technology, Image Processing, and GIS System for Water Cleaning Projects in Punjab

Lovely Professional University is focused towards water cleaning projects in collaboration with the industry & government in Punjab using Geographic information system (GIS) and machine learning technique for the betterment of our nation. LPU collaborated with various local regional, national and international government bodies on water security. In this pursuit LPU conducted a yearlong field survey at local levels and this survey reveals that providing access to clean drinking water can have important effects beyond nutrition and general health, with help of projects aimed at providing clean water account for people’s perceptions of water quality and promote good hygiene practices.
In addition, this project aims at assessing and mapping the groundwater contamination in the Punjab region by making use of satellite technologies, GIS, image processing, and machine learning-based techniques.

University Students Initiate Community Awareness for Water-Conscious Usage

Event organized by the Student Organization Cell, Division of Student Welfare at Lovely Professional University, this event brought together students, university maintenance incharge and more than 100 community members. The aim was to raise awareness about the importance of water utilization by urging people to transition from traditional plumbing fixtures and fittings to water-efficient alternatives. These changes can significantly reduce water waste and lead to cost savings on water and electricity bills, which is particularly crucial in areas with high water production and supply costs.

Cooperation with local and regional community on water security

  • LPU collaborates with local and regional communities to bolster water security to advancing social impact aligned with a focus for sustainable water and sanitation. Through outreach, LPU’s expert faculty deliver a Short Term Course on "Enhancing Skills in Water Demand and Supply Management" to participants from external organizations. This course equips learners with skills in creating water networks, using simulations for demand and supply visualization, assessing uncertainties, understanding data limitations, and analyzing water supply sustainability.
  • As part of a collaborative outreach initiative to support local and regional water security, LPU’s HRDC hosted a “Water Utility Management Workshop,” offering external participants hands-on training in water supply networks, hydraulics, data integration, and analysis. The workshop covered GIS map import into EPANET for network design, creating demand-driven and pressure-driven models, and introduced Qatium, an advanced water management platform, empowering participants with essential tools for effective water utility management
  • LPU students launched the “Go Clean & Safe” initiative, taking to the streets to promote a water-less car wash concept as part of their outreach on water conservation. Through community discussions and demonstrations, they raised awareness on reducing water use in daily practices, showcasing sustainable alternatives that align with environmental stewardship. This effort supports Sustainable Development Goal 6, fostering local and regional cooperation for water security and inspiring others to adopt conservation-focused solutions.
