Introduction

recognizes the importance of responsible and sustainable practices in sourcing food from aquatic ecosystems. This policy is designed to promote the responsible harvesting and consumption of aquatic resources on campus while minimizing negative environmental and social impacts. The university is committed towards promoting sustainable practices and strives to educate its community on the importance of responsible food sourcing.

Scope

This policy applies to all individuals and entities operating on or affiliated with LPU who are involved in the procurement, preparation, and consumption of aquatic food on campus. It encompasses all aquatic food products, including seafood and aquatic plants, sourced from on-campus sources and external suppliers.

Objectives

The objectives of this policy are as follows:
1. To support sustainable and ethical practices in harvesting and sourcing aquatic food on campus.
2. To minimize the environmental and social impacts associated with aquatic food production.
3. To educate the university community about the importance of sustainable food choices.
4. To collaborate with local and regional stakeholders to promote responsible aquatic food sourcing.

Guidelines

1. Prioritize the procurement of aquatic food products, if required that are certified sustainable by recognized organizations.
2. Collaborate with local, responsible fisheries, and aquaculture producers, when possible, to support regional and sustainable sourcing.
3. Establish a preference for seafood and species that are abundant and have healthy populations, avoiding those that are overexploited or vulnerable.
4. Integrate sustainability education into the curriculum to raise awareness among students, faculty, and staff about the importance of sustainable aquatic food practices.
5. Collaborate with local and regional stakeholders, conservation organizations, and industry partners to advocate for sustainable aquatic food practices.
6. Regularly review and monitoring assess the effectiveness of this policy in achieving its objectives.
7. Promote research and initiatives that contribute to the responsible management of aquatic ecosystems and the sustainable harvesting of aquatic food resources.
8. Promote events, workshops, and seminars on responsible food choices, aquatic ecosystems, and sustainable harvesting practices within and outside the University campus.
