Action Plan to Reduce Plastic Waste on Campus
Events on Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of the Oceans, Seas, Lakes, Rivers & Marine Resources
Lovely Professional University has established itself as a passionate activist for the preservation and responsible management of our planet's aquatic resources. Through a series of dedicated events, they have actively worked to raise awareness about the imperative need for sustainable utilization of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and marine resources. These initiatives have emphasized the importance of restoring aquatic ecosystems that are essential for biodiversity and the well-being of our planet. LPU has taken a firm stance against pollution's detrimental effects on marine biodiversity, emphasizing the urgency of addressing this issue. Furthermore, they have educated the public and their students on marine microbiology, underlining the significance of understanding the intricacies of marine life and its vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Lastly, their efforts in advocating for the treatment of wastewater before discharge into environmental bodies exemplify their commitment to minimizing the harmful impact of human activities on our precious aquatic environments. Through these activities, LPU has played a pivotal role in nurturing a generation of responsible stewards for our aquatic resources.

Theme: "Aqua-Forensics: area covered: Aquatic Entomology, Marine forensic, drowning deaths and Marine toxicology on 26 March, 2022. This competition was organized as a part of weekend celebration on World Water Day
and aims to engage students and researchers in exploring the fascinating realm of underwater forensics. Students have an opportunity to showcase their creativity, scientific Knowledge, and investigative skills.
This event was conducted to understand Participants are required to design an informative and visually appealing poster that highlights the significance of aqua-forensics. The posters should be visually engaging, incorporating relevant imagery, diagrams, data visualizations, and concise text. The submitted posters has been evaluated based on criteria such as clarity of message, creativity, scientific accuracy, visual impact, and overall design aesthetics.

Online Guest Lecture on ‘Influence of Pollution on Marine Biodiversity’
LPU as part of our ongoing efforts to create awareness and educate students about the critical issue of pollution and its impact on marine biodiversity organizes a Guest lecture titled "Influence of Pollution on Marine Biodiversity" on dated February, 2022.
The primary objective of the guest lecture was to provide attendees with valuable insights into the far-reaching consequences of pollution on marine ecosystems and the diverse life forms they support. The speaker presented case studies and real-life examples illustrating the direct and indirect impacts of pollution on marine biodiversity.
Speaker emphasizing over the importance of preserving marine biodiversity.
Online event on ‘Water Quality Analysis Using Modern Tools’
The event was organized by LPU with an objective of introducing participants to the latest tools and techniques used in assessing water quality. The event aimed to enhance understanding, promote scientific knowledge, and highlight the importance of monitoring and maintaining water quality for environmental sustainability.
Dr. P. Partheeban, Professor and Dean of Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai, is a distinguished guest speaker at the event.
Live webinar on Role of Wastewater on Sustainable Solutions and Policy Recommendation
The AMI (Association of Microbiologists of India) in collaboration with LPU unit, organized a live webinar with the
Resource person Dr. Jastin Samuel, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology on March 2023. While introducing the topic, Dr. Samuel explained almost 90% of wastewater is discharged into freshwater bodies leading to pollution and health hazards. Wastewater is contaminated by organic compounds, pathogens, heavy metals, organic matter, nutrients, and synthetic materials. He explained how the village of
Ridgewood in the USA has developed a
wastewater treatment plant, biogas generator, and
liquid waste holding tanks with low cost of operation, low carbon footprint, and sludge hauling costs. Similarly in
Nagpur, the
Indian Government provided funds and created mechanisms and policies for regulation under programs like
JNNURM and
PPP for appealing the private investors to provide funding

Event ‘Waste Management in Routine Life’ (LPU Happening post Dated July 2022)
LPU Verto took steps to save Environment by conducting an event ‘Waste Management in Routine Life’ under task “Community Development Project”. The objective behind the project is to make people habituate waste management in their daily routine on their own.
As she found various issues related to waste management like no estimation of food, light, water, use of plastics, shyness to clean the waste, unplanned dumping at any place, sanitary napkins dumping, and household wastes not being reused or recycled in perfect manner.
The LPU collaborated with many organizations like
Pentaomnia, Enviro Promise, Rising Star Youth Foundation and Bloom Calendar and These Organisation helped her to implement my model in their nearby societies on a greater scale with social media campaigns.
30+ Societies and 5+ organizations have adopted her model of managing waste in routine life on their own and her target is to make whole society to follow the model and recognize the importance of waste management.
