Promotion of Freedom of Research and Thesis Submission

Introduction

The promotion of research and development in current time needs boost and orientation in line with the demand of the world population. The conventional research needs to updated to current topics and the same needs to carried out by educational and research organizations. The focus on sustainable ideas cannot lag behind and thus, Lovely Professional University is committed to initiate the research by transparent allocation of research supervisors, allow freedom to the researcher to promote his/her research ideas on universal platform.

Scope

The scope of these guidelines is to provide a roadmap for allocation of supervisor, promote research among budding researchers, along with guidelines for submission of thesis.

Objectives

  • Transparency in supervisor allocation process.
  • Promotion freedom of research among scholars.
  • Facile methodology for thesis submission.

Allocation of the Research Supervisor

Lovely Professional University, shall initiate the process of supervisor allocation during the course work classes of the Ph.D. research scholars, during bachelor and master programmes. However, Ph.D. research scholars as per the following details can participate in the supervisor allocation process before registration in the course work classes.

  • Ph.D. research scholars who are exempted from the course work.
  • Ph.D. research scholars who avail government fellowships

The process of research supervisor allocation shall include the following stages:

  • The list of the available Ph.D supervisors, projects mentors shall be analyzed.
  • An open online interface for all the eligible candidates where they can view a brief research profile of the supervisors and mentors available in the specialization area in which the research scholars / project student is intended to work.
  • Ph.D. research scholars will be required to give maximum of 5 preferences for the potential supervisors after viewing their research profile on the same online interface. Thereafter a meeting between research scholars shall be arranged through online or offline mode for mutual consent research scholars and potential supervisors/mentors.
  • Finally, the supervisor shall be allocated the Ph.D. research scholar / project mentor which shall be visible on the UMS of Lovely Professional University.

Promotion of Freedom of Research among Scholars

  • The research scholars are free to choose the area of research and thus select research supervisor accordingly.
  • The researcher can promote their research on various social and public platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
  • The researchers can promote their research in various national and international conferences by the means of oral or poster presentations.
  • The researcher can share their research ideas, as per their topic, on various webinars/seminars/workshops etc.
  • The researchers must publish their research in Scopus/Web of Science indexed journals.

Guidelines for Submission of Thesis/Dissertation

  • To enhance the quality output of thesis/dissertation, project student/Ph.D. research scholar are required to publish their research papers in Scopus indexed journals, except for few domains like Hindi and Punjabi where Publication in UGC care general is required.
  • In addition, to publicize the research work, Ph.D. research scholars are required to present two papers in conference/seminar.
  • The project student/research scholar will make a presentation of the work done by him/her, which will be openly defended.
  • While submitting for evaluation, the thesis /dissertation will consist of an undertaking from the research scholar and a certificate from the Supervisor attesting to the originality of the work, vouching that there is no plagiarism and that the work has not been submitted for the award of any other degree/diploma of the same Institution where the work was carried out, or to any other Institution.
  • On the basis of the open presentation, the Research Advisory Committee may recommend modification and / or extension of the work required before the thesis/dissertation will be finally submitted.
  • The Supervisor / Co-Supervisor must certify that all modifications recommended by the Research Advisory Committee, if any, have been incorporated; the research work being reported is the original contribution of the research scholar; and that the work has not been presented elsewhere for the award of any other degree.
  • The Ph.D research scholar will submit four spiral bound copies of the thesis, whereas project student will submit two copies, along with required documents. In addition, a soft copy (in PDF format) of abstract as well as of thesis must accompany the hard copies at the time of submission of thesis.
