Research Centre on Environment and Climate Science

Lovely Professional University (LPU) contributes to corporate planning for climate change disasters by leveraging its expertise in agrometeorology and its partnerships with government agencies.

Agrometeorology Lab at LPU
Agrometeorology lab established at LPU

LPU’s agrometeorology lab plays a key role in studying weather patterns, climate conditions, and their impact on agriculture. This is critical for understanding how climate change affects agricultural production and helps predict potential climate disasters like droughts, floods, and storms.

Through its research, the lab provides valuable insights and data to both corporations and government agencies. This data helps businesses, especially those in agriculture, prepare for adverse weather conditions by developing strategies for mitigating risks associated with climate change.

LPU conducts training programs for corporate and government stakeholders on using agrometeorological data for decision-making. These programs enhance the capacity of businesses to implement sustainable practices and improve their resilience to climate impacts.

Space Centre at LPU
Space Centre Lab

Lovely Professional University (LPU) assists in corporate planning for climate change disasters through its Space Research Centre by combining satellite data, space technology, and collaborations with government agencies.

LPU’s Space Research Centre utilizes satellite technology to monitor climate patterns and environmental changes, which are critical in predicting climate disasters like floods, droughts, and cyclones.

The Centre collects real-time data from satellites, providing accurate and up-to-date information on changing weather conditions, land usage, and atmospheric composition. This data is essential for corporations, particularly in agriculture, construction, energy, and infrastructure sectors, to prepare for potential climate-related risks.

The Space Research Centre supports the development of early warning systems for extreme weather events. By integrating space-based data into early warning platforms, LPU helps both government authorities and corporations make informed decisions about evacuations, disaster response, and resource allocation.

Research centre on Environment and Climate Science

Lovely Professional University, Phagwara has a dedicated centre of excellence “Green Engineering” under Research & Development Cell that works on the green technology, alternative technology, green nano technology, and computation technologies. To ensure that the concept of environmental sustainability is inculcated in the UG, PG, and PhD students/scholars, following measures are taken. There are programmes being taught in UG/PG programs that support environment sustainability. Some of the courses taught with respect to climate science and/or environmental sustainability are

  • ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
  • ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES PRACTICAL
  • ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT

There are programmes that teach Experience Learning Programme (ELP) wherein farmers get exposure on farming techniques. Some of the courses teaching sustainable agricultural practices are:

  • WATER AND FERTIGATION MANAGEMENT IN MICROIRRIGATION
  • HYDROPONICS SYSTEMS FOR GROWING PLANTS
  • PROTECTED CULTIVATION OF VEGETABLE CROPS
  • COMPOSTING BY DIFFERENT METHODS
  • CROP PRODUCTION-MILLETS
  • ORGANIC FARMING
  • ITK FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
  • AGRO-INDUSTRIAL TRAINING
