Online Course on Climate Change and Health

Deadline: Register for the upcoming cohort until October 31, 2023. Once registered, students can study the course at their own pace until November 30, 2023.

Course Overview: The significance of climate change in the context of public health practice is ever-increasing, given the rising frequency and severity of climate-related disasters. Understanding and preparing for unforeseeable events is crucial to safeguarding health and well-being. This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the intersection of climate change and health within the framework of public health practice. It introduces essential concepts for addressing health impacts related to climate change and supporting community preparedness, response, policy formulation, and implementation.

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

  • Comprehend the impact of climate change on public health
  • Understand key climate change events and their relevance to public health actions
  • Analyze strategies for minimizing health impacts from climate change, considering both adaptation and mitigation
  • Grasp recent research findings and policies related to climate change and health

This course is designed for individuals working in health, policy, education, and humanitarian sectors. Potential students include civil servants, healthcare professionals, frontline disaster relief workers, and undergraduate or postgraduate students in related fields. The course is accessible to anyone worldwide.

Course Structure: The course consists of eight lessons, four short quizzes, and a final assessment. Each lesson requires approximately one to three hours of study. All assessments are in the form of multiple-choice questions, with unlimited attempts. To progress through the course, students must score 80% or higher on each short quiz. Students enrolled in the course have access to all learning materials and activities online for up to seven months. Course topics include:

  • Health Challenges Related to the Impacts of Climate Change II
  • Health Challenges Related to the Impacts of Climate Change III
  • Impacts of Climate Change on Communicable Diseases

  • Response to Climate Change: Mitigation
Course Completion and Certification: Students who achieve a score of 60% or higher in the final assessment will receive a printable certificate recognizing their course completion.
