Lovely Professional University (LPU), in collaboration with the Jodhpur Urban Planning Department, organized a city development initiative focused on the master and zonal development plans for Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This semester, students from LPU’s Architecture and Planning program engaged in hands-on learning to contribute to sustainable urban planning efforts. During their visit to Jodhpur, students conducted surveys to gather primary data and consulted local offices for secondary data. They met with the Urban Planning Officer to discuss the city’s Master Plan and assessed areas such as sewerage system expansion, treatment capacity, pipeline improvements, and future planning needs. This collaboration reflects LPU’s commitment to sustainable urban development and practical education through partnerships with local authorities.

Lovely Professional University’s with National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, REFORMICA, played a monumental role in the Pulse Polio Immunization Drive in collaboration with the Civil Surgeon of Jalandhar. In a concerted effort to combat polio and support global health objectives, LPU-NSS volunteers joined forces with local health authorities to administer polio drops to children at strategic locations such as Jalandhar Bus Stand, Jalandhar City Railway Station, Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station, and Haveli. This impactful collaboration underscored LPU's dedication to social responsibility and community service, contributing significantly to the mission of eradicating polio from the country.

The following initiatives taken by LPU as social project which have been specifically aligned to Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the aim of LPU is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. These projects and initiatives are examples of the University’s contribution to the SDGs. LPU chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal embarked on a compassionate mission. He visited the flood-ravaged areas, witnessing the devastating impact on affected communities. With unwavering determination, Chancellor sir pledged to extend comprehensive support and provide essential assistance to those in need. His commitment was crystal clear: ensuring that relief and resources would reach the affected people in a timely manner, demonstrating a dedicated effort to fulfill the aspirations of the SDGs and uplift his stateandnation.

The University has its very own fire station department, fully equiped with a fire truck and trained firemen to respond to various emergency situations, university Understands the Need for Community Risk Assessment with dedicated effort to fulfill the aspirations of the SDGs, university commited to nearby areas and adjoined cities or villages to provide 24 x 7 facility in fire hazards to avoid untoward incidents, rescue peoples in the event of fires to control and extinguish accidental fires that threaten life and property, as well as to rescue persons from confinement or dangerous situations. Additionaly university also ready for emergency medical care, and other related emergency services in universty hospital “ UNI HEALTH CARE” with first aid medical provision through our 24 x 7 ambulance availability for community.

Improved Urban Systems for Liveability
LPU School of architecture assigning projects to students to fulfill the aspirations of the SDGs. This project investigates how major cities function and the effects of their land-use, housing and infrastructure systems on the humans that live in them. The main urban systems underpinning liveability include transport networks, green space and housing and the interconnections between them. The project given to students with aims to better understand how these systems combine to affect liveability and how decision-making could be in city planning, management and development can be better informed to improve urban planning that fosters safe, affordable, and resilient cities with green and culturally enriching living environments as outcomes in these areas. The research will examine how the integration of urban systems can be optimised in inner, middle and outer or peri-urban areas of cities to create greener more walkable and sustainable neighbourhoods, and wider urban regions, that enable urban residents to have access to nature, produce cleaner air, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase active transportation, reduce chronic disease and facilitate climate change adaptation.

The aims of this project partnership between state government and Lovely Professional university is on collaborative social projects to cleaning near by creek water into usable water to help prevent aquatic pollution.

1. Undertake dedicated, timely and relevant initiative to identify and manage pollutants in waterways and creek water bodies, covering both urban and rural waterways in the area and prioritization and design of interventions for the protection and improvement of water bodies ecosystems.
2. Develop formal strategies and activities to implement water’s policy and practice for the betterment of surrounding nature’s life.
3. Develop formal opportunities for student & staff development and two-way exchange between local communities and local municipal corporation to help in this project for safe, clean and healthy living communities in our surroundings
4. Work collaboratively to get next level outcome for marine life present in aquatic environment.
Engineering solutions for informal settlements to avoid natural disaster impact on cities and communities:
Lovely professional university took initiative based on technical site visits program to understand the natural disaster impact on communities and how it can be avoid for the safe side as per community needs, engineers from the maintenance department of university are very much expert in designing solutions to mitigate water, sanitation, drainage, waste, flood risks and specially fire incidents which are very common in domestic sites so fire detection, fire alarm, gas detection and fire fighting system could be fixed to to avoid untoward incidents in real time for ensuring continuous functional fitness of the fire protection system to ensure continuous functional fitness of fire protection systems capable with every structure to having independent fire protection system. The team focus is on improving prevention vulnerable settlements which are subject to screening and actions to be taken and LPU ensure about this it will be implemented in 2 or 3 years after collaborating with state government department of “Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management” definitely our Coordination and our project report will be helpful to the society in safety perspective based. Further our engineer team will monitor and continuously work on regular basis to make safe surrounding of our cities and communities as per the implementation of the national policy, national plan and provincial plan.

Innovative Water Solutions
University maintenance engineers constructed soak pit cum water harvesting bore while identifying effected sites due to flood ravaged to help villagers to safe their farm area through which over filled water in farms will be recharge to the ground water table level as it allows the collection of large amounts of water and mitigates the effects of drought. Reserving rainwater can help recharge local aquifers, reduce urban flooding and most notably, ensure water availability in water-scarce zones by absorbing water from the sand through soak pit in form of filter.
STP connected to society University constructed sewage treatment plants process and treat wastewater/sewage, breaking it down into a cleaner 'effluent' that can be returned back to nature in a safer, eco-friendly form. This technical step help in restoration for groundwater balance, curb diseases and stop degradation and pollution of the environment.

Sustainable Urban Future PROJECT
School of Civil Engineering took initiative to make sustainable liveabilty comes true by presenting their project to the Local Government & Community Development (LG&CD) Department which one a part of one guest lecture held in school for the awareness between students and staff members which is about creating liveable cities, discussion held positively with officials about the program that can supports city governments, private sector and civil society organisations to accelerate the implementation of high impact projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It mobilises, engages and builds capacity of local government to implement integrated and transformative urban development investments through cooperative partnerships with private sector and civil society. After spending lot of time on survey and measure other factors for the projects which are designed and developed to attract public and private sustainability finance as per the SDG goals to implement liveability in domestic areas of various state and territory capitals. This project implement by the Lovely Professional University at local level by collaborating with government body National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) after examines many important factors about to city’s liveability that also promote the health and wellbeing of community – walkability, public transport, public open spaces, housing affordability, employment.

My Pet Plant campaign:
Promoting Community Participation in Greening Public Spaces

This “My Pet Plant" campaign, aimed at raising awareness, to promote and encourage community participation in planting trees and greenery in public spaces for a more sustainable and aesthetically pleasing environment such as in local areas like roads, colonies, parks, and showcasing how these initiatives can transform the surroundings greener and more sustainable community while showcasing the potential beauty and transformation that planting trees and greenery can bring to public spaces. It will involve and educate the community and create a lasting impact on the environment. The campaign’s resulted with positive outcomes through the facilitation of contributing to the society. The Project Objective is Organize a launch event at Lovely Professional University to introduce the campaign to students, staff, and the local community.

Awareness and Education

1. Collaborate with architects and graphic designers from the university to create digital or physical representations of how the planted areas will look once fully grown. Display these visual representations at the campaign launch site and online to showcase the potential transformation. Develop informative materials (brochures, posters, and online content) explaining the benefits of planting trees. Conduct workshops and webinars on tree planting techniques and maintenance.
2. Collaborate with local authorities and community members to identify suitable locations for tree planting. Assess the soil quality and availability of resources for each site. Set up a volunteer network for ongoing site maintenance, including watering, pruning, and trash removal.
3. By organizing this event “my pet plant” LPU’s team encourages residents and businesses to adopt and care for specific planted areas at local parks and public spaces, inviting community members and local schools to participate. Encourage continued community involvement in maintaining and expanding green spaces is the campaign's success which was due to university efforts to acknowledge volunteers and contributors, and showcase the transformation achieved.
