Introduction

Thirteen LPU Students- Our Vertos to represent India at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Thirteen students from Lovely Professional University were selected as a part of the Indian contingent to represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, held from 23rd July to 8th August 2021. The players represented the nation in Wrestling, Hockey Athletics and Paralympics. This is the highest number of students ever to get selected to any Indian Olympic contingent, from an Indian Private University.

Let’s appreciate all the athletes who participated in the Olympics for India and especially the 12 LPU students who brought glory to us by 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals! The students namely-

  • Neeraj Chopra (Javelin throw) won GOLD MEDAL
  • Nishad Kumar (Para-athlete high jump) won SILVER MEDAL
  • Manpreet Singh (C), Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Rupinderpal Singh, Shamsher Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Varun Kumar (Hockey) won BRONZE MEDAL
  • Bajrang Punia (Wrestling) won BRONZE MEDAL and
  • Amoj Jacob was Part of Indian team that broke the Asian and National Records clocked a time of 3:00.25 (4×400 m relay)
have impressed us by their magnificent performances and excelled in the Olympics by breaking records and making incredible history for us to cherish forever in our hearts!

Verto Manpreet Singh

who is pursuing MBA, is the men's Hockey Team Captain and was India's flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

Verto Neeraj Chopra

who is pursuing B.A., The Indian track and field athlete and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in Indian Army, was selected for his acumen in the
Javelin Throw.

Verto Bajrang Punia

who is pursuing M.A. in Public Administration at LPU, was selected for Wrestling (61 Kgs).

Verto Amoj Jacob

who is pursuing B.P.Ed the Indian sprinter specializing in the 400 meters and the 800 meters, was selected for the 4x400 mt. Relay Race for men.

Verto Nishad Kumar

who is pursuing B.A., Indian para-athlete, was picked for
Paralympics High Jump.

Verto Varun Kumar

who is pursuing MBA, is an Indian Field Hockey Player. He represents Punjab Warriors in the Hockey Indian League.

Verto Mandeep Singh

who is pursuing B.A., is an Indian Field Hockey Player who currently plays as a forward for Ranchi Rhinos in the Hockey India League and the Indian national team.

Verto Rupinderpal Singh

who is pursuing MBA, is a field hockey player and a part of the Indian Hockey Team. He is known as one of the best drag flickers in the world.

Verto Harmanpreet Singh

who is pursuing MBA, is an Indian Field Hockey Player who plays as a defender for the Indian national team.

Verto Dilpreet Singh

who is pursuing B.A., is an Indian Field Hockey Player who plays as a forward. Dilpreet Singh made his Olympic debut in Tokyo.

Verto Shamsher Singh

who is pursuing MBA, is an Indian Field Hockey Player who plays as a forward.
