How can I complete the admission process?

Admission process is fully online. One can also visit the University campus on any working day from 9 am to 5pm to complete the admission process. Visit https://admissions.lpu.in/ to initiate your online admission process.

What are the important dates regarding the admissions?

What are the documents required for taking online admission?

The scanned copies of following documents are required at the time of making application for online admission.

  • Passport size photograph of candidate and parents (Father and Mother)
  • Matriculation Certificate (if applicable)
  • Eligibility qualification certificate (depending on programme) including previous qualifications (Eligibility qualification may be submitted later-on in case the final result has not been declared till date)
  • Gap affidavit (If applicable - Self)
  • Aadhaar card of candidate and parents
  • Category certificate (if applicable, for e.g., if claiming eligibility relaxation on the basis of category)

Is it compulsory to fill all details of the online application or admission form?

It is recommended that you should fill all fields mentioned in the application form, but you may only fill the mandatory fields marked as (*) to submit your admission application.

How can I ascertain that my admission is confirmed?

The candidate is required to complete some basic formalities {register online, upload documents, pay a minimum amount of fee, clear entrance test/ Counselling/ interview (if applicable)} to confirm the seat in any programme subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria. An eight-digit provisional registration number will be generated and will be shared on registered mobile number and email-id of the candidate, indicating the confirmation of seat.

I made mistakes in my application. How will I be able to correct them?

You need to send information from your registered email-ID to admissions@lpu.co.in explaining the corrections/ details. Don’t forget to mention your application ID and registered Mobile or you can call us at 01824- 404404 / 01824-517000.

What if I decide to withdraw admission later? What are the refund rules?

When can I visit the campus?

One can now visit the University campus on any working day from 9 am to 5 pm. Generally, it takes around two hours to complete the admission process, one hour for walk-in counselling and campus visit. What are the various scholarships offered by LPU?

The scholarship is offered in all the programmes in order to provide financial benefit to bright and deserving students. During the last year, LPU has granted scholarships worth INR 100+ crores to students (maximum up-to 9.52 lacs per student) to pursue their education. Following are few criteria for grant of scholarship.

Scholarship:

Scholarships are awarded to candidates based on their performance on any of the following categories:

  • Eligibility Qualification: : For example, on the basis of performance in 10+2 for Undergraduate Programmes and Graduation for Postgraduate Programmes
  • Qualification previous to eligibility qualification: This scholarship is available on the basis of performance in previous to eligibility qualification, for After 12th, After Graduation, and for Lateral Entry programs; however, please verify its applicability for specific programs.

I am expecting to get around 60% marks. Will I get any scholarship?

LPU offers a variety of scholarships to support all deserving candidates. What if I don’t meet the eligibility conditions specified by the university? What will happen to my candidature?

LPU offers more than 150+ different programmes in 40+ disciplines and you can transfer to a program that fulfils your eligibility conditions or you can apply for refund and you will get the refund as per the university refund policy.

What is a minimum fee payment to reserve a seat?

You can take provisional admission and confirm your seat by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 10,000 in all programmes which would be adjusted against your programme fee of the semester (except M.Sc. Agriculture, M.Pharm., M.A. Hindi/Punjabi and B.Pharma Programmes).Click here for program wise detailed information.

How much time will I get to deposit the balance fees?

You may pay the balance fee in parts within 7-10 days after taking admission in case you still face any challenges; you are advised to write to the university at feeinfo@lpu.co.in.

What are dates for the LPUNEST test?

LPUNEST (Online Remotely Proctored and Test Centre Based Exam) dates are announced. We suggest you to take LPUNEST Exam as it acts as entrance and scholarship test for most of the programme. Click here to view programme wise LPUNEST Dates.

What are the eligibility requirements for admission? Is LPUNEST a mandatory requirement for admission?

The eligibility criterion varies from programme to programme. You can refer program pages or nest.lpu.in for detailed information about the eligibility of any particular programme.

If I take admission now without LPUNEST, do I need to qualify LPUNEST later?

Currently qualifying LPUNEST is mandatory for most of the programmes where it acts as eligibility as well as scholarship test except in some programmes where it only acts as a scholarship test. How can I apply for a hostel?

You can apply for hostel facilities online by using your application portal at https://admissions.lpu.in after the admission and any time before joining the university. However, it is advised to book the hostels at the earliest possible option, to avail facilities of your choice and to avoid last moment rush. Click here to know more.

Is mess and laundry facility compulsory to take with residential facility?

Both mess and laundry facility are optional. A student can avail these facilities at the time of reporting in the university.

What should I do in case of a medical emergency?

Absolutely! Students can schedule their morning routine with gym and yoga classes available on campus.

How can I stay updated about hostel events and activities?

Hostel events and activities are regularly updated on the student UMS and notice boards within the hostels.

Who should I contact for maintenance issues in my room?

For any maintenance issues in your room, contact the hostel warden or use the maintenance request feature available on the student UMS.

Are there any quiet hours in the hostels?

Yes, quiet hours are enforced in the hostels to ensure a conducive study environment. These hours are usually from 10 PM to 6 AM.

Can I host visitors in my hostel room?

Visitors are allowed during specific visiting hours and must register at the hostel office. Overnight stays for visitors are not permitted.

What is Campus recruitment?

Campus recruitment refers to the process whereby employers undertake an organized program of attracting and hiring students who are about to graduate from colleges, and universities. (On-campus/ Off campus / Pool-campus) The objective of campus placementis to identify the talented and qualified students before they complete their education.

How can I register myself fora particular company’s placement process?

What does it mean that I have been shortlisted by the company?

At times, the recruiter may shortlist the candidate from the willingness database sent by the placement cell.

Can a student get more than one offer?

Yes, but it has certain conditions attached to it. Please contact the placement cell for more details.

How do I communicate witha particular company?

All communication should be routed through the Placement Cell only. Student is not allowed to contact the company's HR directly. Any correspondence from the company to the student must be forwarded to the Placement Cell for records.

Will the results be declared on the same day of the campus placements?

Results will be declared on the same day by most of the companies, but a few companies might announce the results later.

If I am awaiting results in one company, am I eligible to attend the drive of other company?

You are eligible till the final results are declared by the earlier company. If you are selected, then it is mandatory to take the earlier offer.

Credit-Transfer

What are the academic eligibility requirements?

The students should have good academic score in the first two years of their study. Minimum 6.5 CGPA with no backlogs and re-appears.

Are there any other Requisites and Conditions that need to be fulfilled?

Is English Proficiency test required?

English Proficiency test would be subjective to the University & Country you are applying to. Generally, the score required is 6.5 bands, not less than 6 in each module in IELTS. In some cases, partner Universities waive off the IELTS requirement. It is entirely a subjective exemption.

Is the SAT required for admission to foreign university for the undergraduate courses?

SAT is not required for the admission in the undergraduate courses at the foreign university when a student is taking international transfer through LPU.

Is GMAT/GRE required for getting international transfer to Foreign University in Masters?

These are the host foreign university requirements and would vary as per the course, program and country.

Are there any charges involved in the International transfer?

The student has to pay the tuition fee of the overseas host university along with the visa application charges, travel expenses and the living expenses while studying at overseas host university.

When and how can I apply for an education loan?

You can apply for an education loan once you have a conditional offer letter from the partner university. The conditional offer letter is a document that you can provide as a supporting document to the bank while applying for Education loan.

What is a Conditional offer letter?

Conditional offer letter is an admission letter issued by the overseas host university offering admission to a student subject to conditions which need to be fulfilled. The conditions are mentioned on the letter and student has to fulfil those conditions in order to get acceptance or unconditional offer letter to apply for visa.

When can I apply for a visa?

You can apply for visa once you receive the unconditional offer letter and have all the necessary documentation in place, as required by the visa issuing authority of the host country.

What is an unconditional offer letter?

Unconditional offer letter is the final letter issued by the overseas host university when the student has met all the admission criteria of the overseas host university.

Would University be applying for the visa on my behalf?

You would directly apply for the visa once you have procured the necessary documents. The Division of International Affairs at LPU would only help in procuring relevant documents pertaining to LPU to apply for visa.

Can I go to the university which is not mentioned in the list provided on the website?

In very exceptional cases you may be allowed to apply to the university which is not mentioned in the list. You should contact the Division of International Affairs with this kind of request.

What kind of visa would I get?

The student would get a student visa. For instance, in USA the student will get F1 visa, In Canada the student will get S-1 visa, In UK the student will get Tier 4 visa, In Australia the student will get student (Subclass 500) visa.

Can I do a part time job while studying at Foreign University?

It will depend upon the rules and regulations of the country where you are going. Generally, you would be allowed to work on a student visa as per the law of the land. In most situations, the student can work 20 hours per week during the duration of their study.

Is visa guaranteed?

Visa is issued by the Embassy of the particular country after all the procedures are duly followed by the candidate. Thus, a successful visa is conditional to the visa granting authority and depends on the documents which are being presented by you at the time of the visa application.

Can I go to the university which is not mentioned in the list provided on the website?

International transfer is not allowed to the university which is not mentioned on the website. A request by the student can be considered if the student is taking transfer to an Ivy League/ top ranked university.

What happens if I do not meet LPU’s eligibility criteria to take international transfer during the first two years of study at LPU?

We will give you a choice to improve your grades in order to transfer to a foreign university or you can continue here at LPU and complete the degree.

Semester Abroad

What are the academic eligibility requirements?

Under Semester Abroad program the tuition fee of the overseas host university is waived hence LPU allows meritorious students with good academic standing to opt for semester abroad as an option. Student must at least spend one academic year at the home university to be eligible to attend semester abroad.

Are there any other Requisites and Conditions that need to be fulfilled?

Is English Proficiency test required?

Generally English proficiency test is not required for semester abroad but some countries and universities make it mandatory. The score required is 6.5 bands not less than 6 in each module in IELTS.

Are there any charges involved in the semester abroad?

The student has to pay for the visa application charges, travel expenses, the living expenses while studying at overseas host university and the nominal expenses (if any) as suggested by the overseas host university.

Are there any academic tests required to attend a semester abroad?

There are no academic tests required to attend a semester abroad.

How do I get selected for Semester Abroad?

The student with meritorious and good academic standing has to go through a stringent selection process at Home University. The Home University nominates the selected candidates. Acceptance of the nominated candidates is at sole discretion of the overseas host university.

Would University be applying the visa on my behalf?

The University would not be applying visa on behalf of the applicant. The Division of International Affairs at LPU would only help in procuring documents required from the University side to apply for visa. The visa can be applied online by the applicant or through the third party appointed and authorized by the applicant.

What kind of visa I would I get?

The nomenclature of the type of visa of each country is different. A student generally gets a short-term visa.

Can I apply for education Loan?

The student is not eligible for an education loan because this is a short study abroad program. The education loan is applicable for full time study at the educational institute. The applicant is going for short duration only you can apply for visa once I receive the unconditional offer letter and I have all the necessary documentation in place as required by the visa issuing authority of the country you are applying to.

Can I do a part time job while studying at Foreign University?

It would be solely dependent on the type of visa granted to the student. Generally, students are not allowed to work part time on short duration of visa.

Is visa guaranteed?

Visa is not guaranteed because the visa is to be provided by the Embassy of the particular country the applicant is applying to. It would all depend on the documents which are being presented by the applicant at the time of visa application and the profile of the student.

What is the eligibility criteria to apply for the Ph.D. programme?

I’m a qualified Chartered Accountant/ Company Secretary. Can I apply for Ph.D. at LPU?

The candidate having passed the Chartered Accountants (CA) examination with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” (ICAI) is eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme in commerce and allied disciplines.

The candidate having passed the Company Secretary (CS) examination with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade conducted by the Institutes of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme in management / commerce and allied disciplines.

What are the academic milestones as a part of Ph.D. Programme?

The academic milestones for a Ph.D. research scholar are:

Coursework: It consists of mandatory courses prescribed by the regulatory body (UGC/CSIR/BCI/PCI/COA).

State of the Art Seminar (SAS): Finalization of research objectives by scholar for the Ph.D. programme is to be done in the SAS.

End-Term Presentation (ETP): In an ETP, the scholar’s research work progress is evaluated by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) once in every academic term.

Pre-submission/Final Submission: The Ph.D. thesis is evaluated subject to fulfillment of research objectives, research publications, conference presentation, and the recommendations of the Research Advisory Committee.

As a Ph.D. scholar, will I get any chance of teaching at LPU to support myself financially?

Yes, a research scholar can apply for Teaching Fellowship after the successful completion of coursework. The teaching fellowship awardee will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 15,600/ per month (consolidated) subject to qualifying the eligibility criterion and he/she is required to take two courses (upto 10 hours)

Can I seek an exemption from the LPUNEST Exam?

Yes, exemption from the LPUNEST may be allowed only if the candidate is eligible under ANY ONE of the following criteria:

  • UGC/CSIR NET/JRF Qualified
  • GATE Qualified (Within Validity Period)
  • GPAT Qualified (Within Validity Period)
  • M.Phil. Degree (Regular Mode with a minimum of 55% marks)

Note:

  • Exemption is applicable subject to the document verification
  • The weightage of LPUNEST exam is 70% and Interview is 30%
  • In case of LPUNEST exemption, weightage of Interview shall be 100%

After clearing LPUNEST for Ph.D. Programme, is it mandatory to appear for the interview?

Yes, after clearing LPUNEST, the candidate is required to choose for an interview slot. The interview panel consists of discipline experts who will evaluate the candidate on parameters related to the research aptitude, innovativeness, feasibility of the research area, concept clarity, and overall competency to conduct research. The candidate shall prepare a well-defined research proposal/presentation for the interview.

I have qualified for LPUNEST and cleared an interview for the Ph.D. programme, how do I proceed further for admission?

The candidate may proceed as under:

  • Complete the admission process through the admission portal and proceed for provisional admission.
  • Upload documents using “Post-Admission Services” in the admission portal or visit “University Campus”
  • Original Document Verification to be done in campus Ph.D. Freshman Induction.

Ph.D. Programme Related (General Queries)

What is the minimum and maximum duration of the Ph.D. programme?

The duration of the Ph.D. Programme is a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years from the date of registration for all research scholars including M.Phil. candidates.

Can I upload/write a research proposal/coursework exams/thesis in a language other than English?

All the milestone for Ph.D. programmes such as research proposal, coursework exams, End Term Presentations(ETP), thesis shall be in English language only.

Note: Scholar pursuing Ph.D. in disciplines such as Punjabi or Hindi can upload/write research proposal/coursework exams/thesis in their respective language. However, the coursework class will be delivered in English only.

Ph.D. Coursework Related

What are the details of course work?

a) For all Ph.D. programmes except agriculture:

The coursework will consist of four courses having 14 credits. All research scholars admitted to the Ph.D. programme will be required to complete the mandatory coursework and maintain minimum attendance of 75% in the coursework classes to be eligible for end term examination.

b) For Ph.D. Programmes in Agriculture Disciplines:

The course work will be in accordance with ICAR guidelines for more details visit the link: https://nest.lpu.in/phd/course_work.php. Further, a minimum 75% attendance is required during coursework classes to be eligible in end term examination.

What are the passing criteria for Ph.D. coursework?

a) For all Ph.D. programmes except agriculture:

A Ph.D. scholar has to secure a minimum of 55% marks in each course in coursework subject to securing at least 40% marks in end term examination of that course.

b) For Ph.D. Programmes in Agriculture Disciplines:

A Ph.D. scholar has to obtain a minimum “Overall Grade Point Average” OGPA of 6.5 with a minimum grade of 6.0 in individual courses.

What is the schedule of coursework classes for all Ph.D. programme?

a) For all Ph.D. programmes except agriculture:

Is there any difference in the syllabus or total credits in any of the options for coursework?

No, there is no difference in any of the coursework options. The syllabus, credits, and total contact hours are the same across all the coursework options.

Is there any additional fee for the coursework?

No, there is no additional fee for the coursework other than the stipulated tuition fees and examination fees.

Up till what point is the scholar required to pay the Term (Semester) Fee?

The term (semester) fee is applicable to each scholar till the completion of the final thesis.

Ph.D. Supervisor/Co-supervisor Related

What is the process of selection of Ph.D. supervisor?

The supervisor allocation can be done through the online "Supervisor Selection Module" on UMS interface. All eligible supervisors’ profiles will be visible during the Coursework. The research scholars can book the slot with the supervisor and select the supervisor through the interface.

I am an M. Phil. qualified and exempted from the coursework. When I will be given a supervisor and can start my research work?

For M. Phil. candidates, supervisors will be allocated during their first academic term only and such research scholars can start their research work from the first term itself.

How many Ph.D. supervisors am I allowed to work with?

The Scholar must opt for one main supervisor from Lovely Professional University in the respective department/school. Additionally, co-supervisor can be opted from within the University or from another Institution/University/Industry provided he/she meets the eligibility requirement as per University standards.

What is the procedure to opt for Co-supervisor?

The research scholar will be allowed to take co-supervisor after the successful completion of his/her coursework. He/she is required to get consent from their co-supervisor in the prescribed form (available at CRDP) and submit it to the Center of Research Degree Programmes (CRDP), Block 38-202. Upon approval, the research scholars and the co-supervisor will be notified by CRDP.

Hostel/Accommodation

Does the University provide any hostel facility to a Ph.D. scholar?

Yes. Hostel facility is provided to research scholars subject to availability. Ph.D. scholars can also avail hostel facility by submitting their request online through UMS after completion of admission formalities.
